Jerome Williams is a 5th degree black belt (the highest rank awarded in SKA) and is the leader of South Los Angeles Shotokan Karate Club. He began practice in 1971 at the age of 13 with the Boy Scouts. His first teacher was a brown belt from Melrose Dojo. Eventually he started practicing at Melrose Dojo under Tsutomu Ohshima in 1973 . In 1985 Jerome started practicing at Maryknoll Dojo . In 1996 with permission from Ohshima Sensei he started the South Los Angeles Dojo.
Virgil McClain is a 3rd degree black belt who started practicing Shotokan January 1974 at Pepperdine University under Robert (Bob) Louis Owens, a student of Tsutomu Ohshima. Virgil started teaching at Whittier Dojo in 1987 and founded Inglewood Shotokan in 1992. He has trained three students through 2nd degree black belt and one 1st degree black belt. who are black belts (three 2nd degree & one 1st degree).
